The function of balance plate of centrifugal pump?

The balancing disc is used to balance the axial force. The working principle of the balance plate is as follows. The liquid with pressure from the last stage flows into the cavity in front of the balance plate through adjusting the radial clearance of the sleeve, and the cavity is in a high pressure state. The balance tube behind the balance plate is connected with the inlet of the pump, and its pressure is approximately the inlet pressure. In this way, the pressure on both sides of the balancing disk is not equal, so the backward axial thrust, namely the balancing force, is generated. The balance force is opposite to the axial force, so the axial thrust of the impeller is automatically balanced.

When the axial thrust of the impeller is greater than that of the balancing disc, the pump rotor will move to the inlet side. Because of inertia, this movement will not stop at the balancing position immediately, but will exceed the limit, resulting in the excessive reduction of the axial clearance of the balancing disc, the reduction of leakage, and the increase of the pressure in the front cavity of the balancing disc, so the balancing pressure on the balancing disc will increase and exceed the axis of the impeller. To thrust, the rotor is pulled to the exit side. Similarly, this process has inertia, which increases the axial clearance of the balancing disk, causes the balancing force to be less than the axial thrust, and the rotor moves to the inlet side, repeating the above process. This process is automatic. When the pump works, the rotor always moves in a certain balance position, but the momentum is very small. It is difficult to see from the appearance.
